Complete Race Results are Posted

It's Wednesday and the complete results are finally posted.
In my age group 25-30 year olds, I placed 3rd out of 132 female runners. Wow, I look tired in this photo and this was taken before the race.

The next race I will run will be the Fort Worth Zoo Run 10K. Chad's brother, Clay will also be there and he thinks we should run together. He recently won first place in his age group in Get your Rear in Gear 10K. He's probably an 8 minute mile runner or faster. I could probably keep up for the first 2 miles, but I don't know if I could carry through for 6. Trey thinks I should give it a try. Easy for him to say.

After this race, I think I'm going to take a break from racing for a while. I really miss my long runs on the weekends. It's hard to run a 3 or 6 mile race and then later that weekend try to sneak in more mileage, say 8 to 10 miles.

By the way, Trey is still waking up early and going to the gym five days a week. For the first few weeks, he was gaining weight (muscle?), but now the pounds are falling off. I'm so happy for him. Go Trey and keep it up!

Think twice before you ask Chey to comb your hair

Baby in Constant Motion

This is this face she makes when she says don't aka doun't.

Trey was in the background on a service call, while we were making a lot of noise. He had to tell us to keep the volume down. We can get rowdy when we play.
And she knows exactly what she's doing.

Adventurous Duo

Trey and Cheyenne before they drove the trail.

Cheyenne's only 16 months, but she's already giving me attitude. She has learned a new word "don't". If I take her blanket away, she'll say, "Doun't!" (just like that). Yeah, she's still in a blanket phase, especially in the mornings. And lately she's become more and more of a daddy's girl. Trey loves that.

On the Ranch

Yesterday, Chad and Katy invited us to their family ranch. There was a large group of people out there and a ton of kiddos. While we were there we ate brisket, went riding on four wheelers, and the kids went Easter egg hunting. Four hours of fun and exhaustion.

We had a chance to see most of the ranch, since Chad gave us a tour on wheels. I rode with Trey on the four wheeler. It was so beautiful. I would love to go running on that trail, but I'd probably get lost with all the twists and turns.
Oh, the wind was blowing like crazy! 30-35 mph wind gusts. After all the fun, I cleaned my ears with a Q-tip and I pulled out little bits of dirt and sand. Eeeewwwww! I'm such a city girl.

We had fun looking for eggs and she knew exactly what to do.
Big EGG!
Mamma picked the wrong day to dress the baby in white. Chey played so hard and she was filthy. That's what kids do. When they play hard, they get dirty.

Run to Joe's 5K Race

Distance 3.1 Miles
Duration: 25:35
Average Pace Per Mile: 8:12
Temperature: 58 degrees
Wind: SSW 18 mph
I placed third in my age group. The only results posted at this time are of runners who placed, so I'm not sure how many women were in my age group...Still I'm very pleased. First time ever to place!

There were approximately 2,200 runners. Two races: 5K and 10K. This was my third year participating in Run to Joe's and it's a race that benefits the Samaritan House. I took this picture during the award ceremony. I should've stuck around longer because I think I would've received a carved wooden parrot, for placing. Just what I always wanted.
Our friend Adam also ran the 5K. This was his first race. He did good finishing around 30 minutes.
Cheyenne was terrified of the mascot
Cheyenne completely distracted...

Run to Joe's Race Weather Conditions

It should warm up to about 56 degrees, by the time the race starts.

Meet The Running Couple!

It's amazing how you can be friends with people and never have met them. The Internet is an amazing thing. A few weeks ago a charming couple requested to follow me on Twitter, Lee and Isis. They are local runners in the DFW area and they are passionate about running. Since following them on Twitter (@runningcouple), I now follow their blog and another social media site. They are an inspirational couple and I'm sure I'll meet them at a race this year. It's so nice to have a strong running community.

Sound The Alarm

Yesterday, evening while I was cooking Cheyenne was playing with my keychain. I didn't think anything of it, until she pressed the panic button on the home security system. The house alarm went crazy. It was loud!!!! A police officer came to our house to check on us. Wow, not even two years old and getting in trouble with the law. She is something else.

Lots of Face Time @ The Dinner Table

We've been enjoying family dinners at the table. Cheyenne loves dinner time too! It's nice to sit down and have some quality time with my favorite people.

I Love Me Some Whole Grain

I'm such a nut for anything and everything whole grain. Bread, noodles, crackers, cereal, tortillas, chips, you name it. I even push my whole grain views on my family....I can't help it. So, when I saw this recipe in Runners World, I knew I wanted to try it. The recipe is called, Rocco's Fettuccine Alfredo.
CARBS: 47 G --- PROTEIN: 18 G --- FAT: 10 G
Rocco's Fettuccine Alfredo
8 ounces whole-wheat fettuccine
1 tablespoon butter
3 garlic cloves, minced (my house still smells like garlic)
2 teaspoons cornstarch
Pinch of ground nutmeg (a spice I don't typically use)
3/4 cup low-fat, low-sodium chicken broth
3/4 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
3/4 cup 5 percent Greek yogurt
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
-For cooking directions refer to RW online

I added spinach and later added tomatoes to the mix. Lately, I've been eating a lot of fettuccine with the traditional alfredo sauce, so making this with greek yogurt definitely tasted different. This recipe wasn't off the hook, but it wasn't terrible either. I can tell you this much, it's a wonderful alternative to the traditional version. I'd make it again.

I'm So Proud of Trey!

For the longest time, Chad has been working out five days a week at the gym. And for the longest time, he's been inviting Trey to join him. Well, guess what Trey's been doing? Yeah, last week he worked out with him. They've been working out before sunrise.

Today, Trey signed up and got a gym membership and he has no plans of stopping. He's working out five days a week. Lifting weights three times a week and two days a week doing cardio (swimming). This is the same man that tried running with me a few years ago and complained less than half a mile into it, saying that his legs were going to snap and fall off. I could not be happier that he is working out and it's even better that he has an accountability partner. I've already thanked Chad like five times.

Trey is also starting to look at his diet. This past weekend, we made a trip to GNC. We got him some vitamins and also a post workout protein drink called AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. That drink is so good! I'm think I'm going to start taking it too after my long runs, but only half a cup of it.

Earlier today, Trey called and said he had salmon for lunch. What? ReallY? I'm really happy for him and it's only been a week, but I can already tell a difference in his attitude. I'm so use to me being the "healthy one"...but this morning I woke up and Trey had just got home from the gym. I was about to do some cross training on the elliptical, since Cheyenne decided to sleep in this morning. I was getting my water and about to start stretching and Trey was eating oatmeal with bananas and making his protein shake. What I'm trying to say is...I'm not use to this new version of Trey, but I like it.

This is Delicious

We were sitting down playing with toys and out of nowhere Cheyenne started chewing her toy.
Perhaps she's teething. IMG_0543
Lately, Cheyenne has become more vocal. Today we carried on a whole conversation about hugs and kisses. That's another thing she has learned to do. The kisses she gives are usually wet. She also likes making silly faces.
Today we got Cheyenne new sippy cups. She needed them.

Accurate Results

I finally have some results that are accurate. I don't want to hold my breathe, but these results are right on the money.
Nike+ Running Results
What I did:
I ran a mile on the treadmill at a consistent pace. It over calculated my run by .24, so I used that as my guide and calibrated the numbers based on that....I then went on a 3 mile run at a constant speed (6.5) and after my run, I cross referenced the numbers on the treadmill and the sportband. They matched.

I'm wondering if running outside will make a difference? Also, running at various speeds? Also different elevations? And so it goes....To be continued....

Nike+ SportBand You Disappoint Me

Today, is the first day of spring and a cold front has moved through. Welcome to Texas. Instead of running outside, I ran on the dreadmill.

Distance: 6 miles
Duration: 58:55
Average Pace Per Mile: 09:49
Temperature: Outside it was 34 and rainy - Inside it was nice a comfortable
Wind: Just the wind from the fan blowing on me
Notes: I decided to run inside because it had been raining all night long and it was still raining throughout the morning.

I'm still using the Nike+ Sportband and I am extremely disappointed. It constantly over estimates my distance. After Thursday's 4 mile run it over estimated by .25 and today it over estimated by nearly a mile! It seems like the farther I run the more it goes off the deep end! I give it a grade F. I will continue to try to tweak the calibration, but honestly I have little faith that it will ever be accurate. Should've bought a Garmin. Yeah right, those things are like 300 bucks.

The most accurate running accessory I've used is MotionX GPS. But even that has its flaws. If it's a cloudy day the GPS acts all funky. Still, at least the mileage, distance, and pace are right on track. I think I'm going to use that on my long runs. Back to MotionX GPS I go!

Crawling Like a Crab

Towards the middle of this video, Cheyenne crawls after a run-away ball. Now that she's walking, maybe she forgot how to properly crawl. It's cute.

She still has a runny nose, but last night she slept all night long. Yay! We have our baby back! Today, I have the day off, so I'm spending the day at home with her.

Tell Me What's Wrong

Sometimes it's hard to communicate when you don't have the words to express how you feel.

Case and Point...

Last night, my poor baby had a runny nose and she cried off an on all night long. She ended up in bed with us. Trey and I aren't use to nights with her crying like that. She spoils us!

Working Out of State

I've been meaning to post this for a while.

Trey has been doing work out of state for a week at a time. Last week, he took video of one of the hotels he stayed at. After seeing this video, I told him next time he needs to take me with him. It's nice! His job is going good and they are starting to get real busy.

Garage Workshop

This past weekend, Trey helped Chad work on his cabinets. They did some work in our garage. Trey moved the Element and made himself a little workshop. I didn't mind because after they were done he moved the Element back in there.
Chad gave Trey this work station. Under the counter, Trey has storage room to place extra tools. It keeps everything nice and organized.
And see that big green thing on the right side, that's some kind of wood working tool. He bought it from Johnny. You know, I'm not sure what it does.
This evening Trey and Chad will be working on the cabinets. I think they are close to wrapping this project.

I'm still trying to get a feel for this Nike+ Sportband. This morning I went on my normal treadmill run.

Actual Results
Distance: 4 miles
Duration: 38:49
Avg Pace: 9:42

Nike+ Results
Distance: 4.91 miles (WAY OFF)
Duration: 38:49 (the same)
Avg Pace: 7:54

After talking it out with Trey, he thinks the main reason is the shoe-key-holder. When I place the sensor in the holder, it's loose. So, the sensor is shifting and moving around causing inaccurate results. That sounds right. Trey suggested we retro-fit my shoes. He took my old brooks and cut a pocket for the sensor to slip in the inside sole.
Here is an example of what a Nike+ Shoe looks like.
After all that trouble, I went for a one mile run and the results were fairly accurate. The average pace per mile was still off, but I can always plug those numbers in and find out the correct pace. My next step, go on a 4 mile run Thursday. If that works I'll take the next step and retro-fit my Saucony's. I'll keep you posted.

The Water Gardens

Trey and I had the day off of work. We enjoyed the day with my mom and sister. This morning we toured The Bureau of Engraving and Printing: U.S. Department of the Treasury (AKA the money plant). We saw so much $$$$, but we didn't leave any richer. If you are into factory assembly lines or if you like watching How-its-made shows, I would recommend the tour.

Later, we had lunch at BoomerJack's. Delicious. I got the adult panini grilled cheese served on whole wheat bread and a side of steamed veggies.

After lunch, we stopped by the Water Gardens.
