Distance: 13.1 miles
Duration: 01:56:00
Average Pace Per Mile: 8:51
Weather: Hot!!!!!!!!! But there was a nice breeze, so it could've been worse. I wore a layer of sunblock. It protected my skin, but I still managed to get dark tan lines.
Sunday, was my first run with Abilene Runner's Club. Sherri, my old college friend, is the ARC membership coordinator and she invited me. It can be intimidating running with new folks, even running with speedy Sherri. I figured, it would be better than going at it alone, plus I love the company. The night before ARC placed water along the 13 mile route. WATER BREAKS! I didn't have to carry my heavy water bottle for the 2 hour journey. It was wonderful. We stopped for water at mile 5, 8, and 10.
I told the group, I want to run a 20 miler with them, this summer. If you are in the Abilene Area and looking for a run group, you should run with them. They are friendly and have season runners who can give you great running advice.
Do something that scares you, you might like it.....
Check out Sherri's fancy Garmin. Since she was tracking our stats on her watch, I didn't worry about setting my phone app, so I had no idea how fast we were going, until we finished. I was surprised at our pace. On average, for a 13 mile run, (solo) I will run a 9:30 type of pace. I guess conversation is a good distraction and keeps me moving and working harder than I realize.
I'm toying with no fridge, no cook pre-run breakfast ideas, particularly for my long runs. Before heading out with the club, I had wheat toast with peanut butter, topped with sliced bananas. My stomach agreed with this meal. If you have any suggestions for no fridge, no cook ideas let me know.
