Since I have several races in the immediate future, it's time to start increasing my weekend mileage. This morning, I wanted to spend more time on the trail, so I didn't leave the house as early as I normally do. It was nice to sleep in a few more hours. Just as the sun was about to rise, I set out for the trail.
It wasn't that cold, but the longer I ran, the colder my fingers got. I even had gloves, but that only kept them warm for a few miles. Around mile 6, I started clutching my hands into fists and blowing on them, but then I got light headed, so I placed one hand under one armpit for a few seconds and then alternated. It worked. Once I got out from the shady area, I met the sun and all was better.
I had 8 miles left on the trail. I stopped at a water fountain, to re-fill my water bottle and guess what? The stupid water lines were frozen. NO WATER! AHHHHH! Then I remembered there was one more fountain on my way home and of course that fountain was also out of service. GREAT. I ended up at a gym, asking the workers at the front desk if I could use their water fountain. "Sure." That gym was packed with people, not a single treadmill available. Can you say New Year's Resolutions?
