I Found My New Crew Member

Saturday, I went for an 18 mile long run. 10 miles around my neighborhood and the rest on the Trinity Trail. It took me a few hours to complete.

Amy (my run buddy) wants to meet tomorrow to run before she goes on vacation, I hope she doesn't want to go fast. I'm not sure I'll have it in me.

Someone could use a new GPS watch.
If you have any model recommendations let me know or if you'd like to donate one to me, that's cool too. I think this week, I'm going to start researching. I love my Nike TOM TOM, but lately it's been flaky. Sometimes, it stops tracking my miles, mid-run…It's like it gets stuck and thinks I'm standing still, when I'm still running. It doesn't happen every time, but it's happen enough times, for me to get annoyed.

Often when I talk with other endurance athletes we talk about how we fuel for long workouts. This has been my go-to meal before a long run:
1 cup of oatmeal, with almond milk, 1 cup of blueberries (or whatever fruit I have), and lots of cinnamon.
Some runners like to consume GU's during long runs, I do that too, but I prefer real food.
When I pack real food to eat during a LR, sometimes I pack the following:
plantain chips, nuts, almond butter wraps, or fruit.
Yesterday, I made my own sunflower - chocolate chip - dried berry - trail mix. YUM!! I didn't eat all of it and accidentally left the bag outside on the driveway. When I went to get it around 10 am, the chocolate was melted. I still ate it.

I may have found my new crew member.
This morning, Chey went for a bike ride around the neighborhood. I ran beside her for 1.75 miles. EXCITING! She wanted to keep going, but I told her that was enough for one day.

It's crazy to think that not too long ago, I was pushing her around the neighborhood in a baby stroller, now she's riding a bike.

Where I'm at Right Now with Running

Just updated my DailyMile.com goal.
DailyMile.com
Post Cowtown Ultra
My mileage has dipped down to the 8-19 miles a week range. I'd like to get back to running at least 20-25 miles a week. For the last two weeks, I've done more cross training. It feels good to be lifting weights and working my core again.

Have you heard of P90x3? That's what I've been doing when I'm not resting or running. Each workout is 30 minutes long.

So, after I ran Cowtown, I bought my first foam roller! I know after years of running, I finally bought one! Why did I wait so long???? I love it! Every ache I feel on my body, I just roll it out. It's like getting  a super intense massage.

Dance. Dance. And For Me, Ultra Running is Mostly Mental.

Chey showing me a my little pony dance she learned. Chey jumping and giggling at the ends cracks me up.

And then we were trying to get Dakota to join in.

In other news
I just realized the Cowtown Ultra Marathon is 3 weekends away!
I feel pretty good about my training, I've been consistently running every week for months now (sure I've missed a few long runs here and there, but over all I've been consistent) and I've had some great long runs the past  few weeks…. ---- for me, the majority of an ultra is mental. It's having a no quit attitude and pushing through, when your mind is telling you to stop. Having a good baseline of training with lots of miles also helps! I don't want to dismiss that.
Here's my training from last week.

Heavy Winter Coat & Not Sure About Winter Running

Chey's coat from last year still fits her, but she's been pouting about it because it's not pink. Talk about a girly girl. I wanted to get her a coat from Target (it's $29), but Trey wanted to check Burlington Coat Factory first. We found this adorable pink ruffled coat for $16.99.

I'm suck a sucker for a cute coat. You should see my closet. I can't get over how adorable and sophisticated my five your daughter looks.

Later, we went to Sam's Club….

Here is my training from last week. There was a wicked cold front that blew through on Saturday and Sunday. I waited until Saturday afternoon, right before the cowboys game started and ran outside. Brrrr! I'm not sure I'm ready for winter running because my bed in the morning is so warm and cozy and I don't always have the luxury of running in the afternoon. Somehow, I got lucky because my sister was at my house and she was there to help with the kids. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but Trey can't carry anything over 20 lbs for a week because of his eye surgery….that means he can't carry Dakota. I miss his help and I'm sure he misses holding his baby.

Appropriate for Monday

My niece went to time-out and then passed out.
Bella Fell Asleep while in time out
Well, that's one way to do it. That's how most people feel about Monday.

Here is my training from last week. I feel pretty lousy about it. Between my 50 hour wok week and taking on the bulk of household responsibility this week (since Trey had eye surgery), -- there was almost no time left for a long run. To make myself feel better, I ran 7 miles this morning, instead of my usual 4-5 miler. It helped.

My Week in Photos

This past week, my weekly training was right on target, but my long run was not as long as I wanted it to be. I'm hoping to have a better long run weekend, coming up. Thursday, I added cross training to my schedule. In addition to running, I rode a few miles on the bike and 3 miles on rowing machine.

My Week in Photos the late edition:
Last week, was ladies night out. My sister, Natasha won this handmade wreath. It was a door prize drawing. Instead of taking it and hanging it at her apartment, she let me borrow it. It's sooo massive.

I took "my  famous" banana pudding to share with the ladies. We had leftovers. Tasha help me buckle it in the car. We wanted to make sure it got home, safe to Trey. Sad thing is, he never got any -- we ate it before he could eat the leftovers. Sorry. I made him another batch this week, so he would stop crying.

Motivation to Run

My training from last week:
Daily Mile Training
Do you ever struggle with motivation?
As much as I love to run, most of the time it's hard to get myself hyped-up for a 3 hour long run -- honestly, sometimes it's hard to get motivated to run 3 miles. Saturday night, I pulled together some inspirational posters and as cheesy as it sounds it really helped me get out of bed for my long run.

Another trick that helps me is an updated playlist. It doesn't even have to be new music, it can be something that I haven't heard in a long time. Keri Hilson - Knock You Down was my power song and that song is a few years old. Do you have anything that helps you exercise? Pinterest? Videos? Music?

Running Before Dawn in Order to Get to a 9 am Showtime

How was your weekend? My weekend was filled with running and recovery.
Saturday, my morning started early at 4:45 am ---- that's when my alarm went off. In order to run 17 miles and get back to the house at 8 am, I had to get up before dawn.
Dailymile
Afterwards, I hurried to get out the door and get the girls to the 9 am movie to watch  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. I love going to the movies at 9 am (really). Can you tell I'm an early bird?
 image
I spent the rest of the afternoon in compression socks with my legs propped up.

Lately, the girls having been spending more time outside playing with chalk. It's nice since the cold front came through, I don't have to worry about the wasps outside. In the summer, the wasps, like to linger near my back porch.
image
This morning, I ran 4 miles on the treadmill. It was easy. I wasn't even watching the time. I just ran and took breaks, when I needed to -- well, when Dakota demanded.
image
For lunch, the girls and I ate at the mall food court. Subway for me (Foot-long, black forest ham!!!), Chick-fil-A for the girls. I sat at the kiddy table with them. It was actually, really comfortable and I didn't have to worry about hunching over to feed Dakota, since I left her in the stroller.
image
One last thing...this is my favorite song on the radio, right now! I've gotta add this to my run playlist.

Evil Baby Laugh & A New Snack Idea

I had a solid week of running. I wanted to run longer on Sunday, but there was not enough time. It's probably best that I didn't run farther because my right calf is kind of bothering me.
Dailymile Training
When I can, I like to start my Monday morning with a quick run. Well, this morning my bed was so comfortable so I slept in. Mid-morning I decided I would run on the treadmill, while the girls were awake. It was hard. Dakota wanted to be near me, which makes me nervous, when the treadmill is on. I don't want her to go flying off the belt. I tried getting toys out, giving her snacks, and at one point, I even moved furniture to where it would be harder for her to get to me. All of those things kept her attention for a little while, but she kept coming back to me.
Dakota Near my Treadmill
It was like she was telling me, "I'm going to make this as difficult for you as I can!!! HAHAHAHAHA!"(evil baby laugh)
Even with all of that, I managed to get 3 miles in, but it was tough!!!!! She made me work for it.
Dakota Near My Treadmill
Did you guys have a good weekend? We did. I posted some Jubilee of Tables photos, oh and TMB concert...we did that. Trey went to the Rangers game this weekend with the guys. While he was there, the girls and I went to Central Market for lunch and shopping. I got Chey this pre-made lunch box and found out Dakota loves raisins. Great! I'm always looking for new snack ideas for the girls.

Dakota and I sat under a periungual and watched Chey play, before we went shopping.

Do you like raisins? I don't, but I can tolerate golden raisins. I prefer dried cranberries.

Free Weight

How was your weekend? I braved the tax-free crowds and went shopping at the mall. It wasn't bad at all. I'm weird and I like busy shopping seasons like tax-free weekend and Black Friday. I also went grocery shopping, for the first time at Trader Joe's. I LOVE IT! The only thing I did not like was the tiny parking lot.

Saturday morning, Trey drove to Abilene and the girls and I stayed behind. While the girls were still sleeping, I ran 10 miles on the treadmill. I had a solid run week.

Dakota and I are committed to doing more strength training, like lifting weights. When she gets bored, working out with me, I use her baby body as a free weight...and boy do I feel the burn!!!Weight Training with Dakota

Work Feels Like Playtime

This happened today, at work.
It's my latest video project. I'm doing a whole series of nursing videos, featuring these guys. I'm use to directing actors, not puppets. It's a learning experience for me, but lots of fun.
Latest Video Project at Work
Tomorrow, I'll be running a 22 mile race. My longest run, during this training cycle has been 16 miles. I should do ok. I already know, the terrain is going to slow me down. There's rocks and steep hills. I'm mentally preparing myself, for 11 minute miles that feel like 9 minutes on the road. Here's my training from last week. I didn't run two long runs back to back, but I did cross train 3 times with EnduraLAB. I was so sore last week, so sore!
After this race, I won't have much time to recover. I have a wedding I'll be recording. When did I think this was a good idea?

We Met with a Pool Designer & A 10 Miler on the Treadmill

Hi! How was your weekend?
Dakota has been busy selecting the tiles for our pool. Well, perhaps our future pool.
Talking about a pool
Saturday morning we met with a pool designer and he told us about all the finishes and options. I kept saying, "Wow! That's nice!!!!!" followed by...."how much?"
Talking about a pool
So apparently, I have expensive tastes. Everything I saw and liked is an upgrade. I had to reel myself-in and go to the affordable - standard wall. Everything you see on the right is standard. Trey and I found several tiles on that wall. Trey was thinking about having a Dallas Cowboys Theme pool (Star and all), but the designer asked him the question, "What if you want to sell your house and you lose a potential buyer because the guy is a Redskins fan?" Good point! So, I'll keep you posted on the pool process. Not sure if it's a done deal for us.
Talking about a pool
I had a super run week!
Run time
It rained Sunday during my long run. I ran outside for 6 miles and it started pouring, so I had to finish 10 miles on the treadmill. I kept stepping off the belt, every mile or so. Ugh! 10 miles is 10 miles and it was done in over an hour.  A long run on a treadmill is not my go to option, but I'm thankful I at least have that option when it's raining and lightning outside.

Recent PR Post Baby & Summer Fun

How is my training going????
I didn't run as often, I actually missed 2 runs, but I ran my designated long run, (16 miles on Saturday). That's the farthest I've ran since getting pregnant with Dakota. So, considering I hit my long run distance and I'm not dealing with any injuries, I feel pretty good about running, right now.
Rough Creek Training
How was your fourth of july weekend????
The girls and I took a mini-trip to Abilene. Trey had to work. I stayed at my mom's house and Chey got all paparazzi.
Mom at home
Besides visiting with my momma, we also celebrated DJ's birthday at the Abilene Swim Club Pool. I know, another pool weekend, we can't get enough!

We slept so loooong this weekend. Running gives me the sleepies and apparently swimming does it for the girls. Actually, Dakota didn't even swim, I suppose it's being passed around -- that gives her the sleepies
Sleepy Girls
Dakota was sleeping hard this morning, I finally woke her up at 8:30 am. I was thankful I got a chance to run on the treadmill, while she was still in bed. Thanks, Dakota!
