Sunday Afternoon Snuggles

I finally got some quality snuggle time with my love bug. We lounged on the sofa, enjoying several episodes of Sponge Bob and the Backyardigans. While we were bundled up, I dozed off for a few minutes. I was tired. I woke up early this morning because I had planned on meeting up with some running friends and exploring a trail in Grapevine. DFW got slammed with scattered storms, so in anticpation of the storms, the run group was cancelled. I got the news about the cancellation, after I was already dressed, so I just ran five - one mile laps in my neighborhood. I ran in the rain, well it was more like a sprinkle. Afterwards, I sat on the patio and the rain started to pour.

The worst part of the storm hit right before we headed off to church. One of our friends in the neighborhood had a trampoline blown on his roof! The fire department came to the rescue.

UNBELIEVABLE.

We got so much rain last week, but I wasn't going to let it stop me from getting outside. Overall, I can't complain about the weather. It was nice and cool and so much better than running on the stinking treadmill. 

I got some new Lululemon gear. I'm product testing their Run:Ultra Shorts (ll). I've ran in them twice and Saturday was my first long run wearing them. I have no complaints. I love them! They are light and extremely comfortable. One of my favorite features is the inside liner. Oh and I love the back zipper pocket. It's the perfect size for my cell phone.

Alright, Marathon training continues. I'm running a total of 24 miles this week and I've already ran 11. Running feels good, but it feels better when I stop. 

Rainy Day - Window Reading

Yesterday morning, Chey and I met with Krista and her daughter Makenna for a morning walk. We've been averaging around 3 miles per walk. We started meeting once a week back in early spring, but then life happened and our weekly walks turned into once a month walks. Now, we are back on track! Monday, makes it our third week in a row to meet!

We got out early enough and didn't have to worry about the rain, but after Chey and I ran errands and got home, it started to pour. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the house, watching TV, reading books, napping, cooking, and playing. 

A few weeks ago, we discovered our church library. Cheyenne is participating in a summer reading program. She reads so many books and at the end of reaching the goal, she gets a treat from Sonic. Since she can't read, she gets credit if I read the books to her. This is not a problem, since we read at least 3-5 books a night. My little bookworm. 

On the topic of reading, Krista is letting me borrow discs from YOUR BABY CAN READ. Currently, Chey is watching the starter disc. Krista and I plan on swapping DVD's every 4 weeks. Chey gets really excited when she watches the beginning of the disc, but 15 minutes into the video she starts getting distracted. I'll try to capture some video of her while she's watching it. She loves the song breaks and she likes to repeat some of the words. Her favorite words to repeat are nose, mouth, and hi.

1st Annual Neighborhood Bar-B-Que & More Pictures from the Wedding

Saturday evening, just 30 minutes before the Neighborhood bar-b-que, a storm rolled in. At first I thought we would have to cancel it, but Matt and Janet said we should move the party indoors, to their house. We all agreed and an hour later 25 people showed up with food and drinks.

It was wonderful to get to know everyone in the community. We started a master list of people’s names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. This has already come in handy. Now I can stop referring to people by the type of car they drive or the type of house they live in. I’m so glad Trey and I initiated this community gathering. It makes me feel safer knowing that I know who lives around me and knowing that they know me.

Next year, I plan on organizing another event like this, but I’m not quite sure how it will progress with more people moving into the neighborhood.

Electricity Outage Almost Sabotaged My Potluck

If you haven’t already heard, Dallas Fort Worth has made national news. Top stories are North Texas Under Water. Fortunately, all I’ve dealt with is heavy rain while commuting.

I say that’s all I’ve dealt with, but last night I was excited to make a dish for today’s potluck. Right before I started to make it, the electricity went out. 20 minutes later and right after the 10 o’clock news I finally completed it.

The rain doesn’t really bother me, but when the electricity goes off I do get frustrated. All this week rain is still in the forecast, which makes me assume we will have a wet Fourth of July.

Front Porch America

When I was in High School I read a book by Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine. The author would constantly refer to "front porch America" and the slow disappearance of that culture. This weekend I thought about that book.

Saturday afternoon it rained for the first time, in no telling how long. It was so nice that Trey and I pulled out our lawn chairs on the front porch and watched as the rain fell. We talked for half an hour out there and watched the neighbors kids as they ran in the street.
