Privacy in the Nursery

My mom was in town yesterday and today and she made a curtain for the nursery.
Before this curtain was here I had newspaper taped to the window. I like this much better.

We still need to work on the window seat bench and the bedding for the crib. While my mom was here she also helped me out with housework and shopping, while I tried to rest.

Well, today I managed to take several naps while Cheyenne slept and after chatting with the pediatrician and lactation consultant I'm going to take their advice and let her sleep through the night. I'll let her wake me up whenever she's ready to be changed or fed. Last night, was the first night I took that advice and I woke up fairly rested this morning.

Starting to Nest. Maybe the End is Near

This weekend Trey and I spent time hanging out with friends, just watching football and visiting. And for the first time Saturday, I felt like nesting. I swept and mopped the entire house and nearly wore myself out.

Sunday, we went to an outdoor Barbecue event at church and was entertained with a live bluegrass band. When we got home, instead of resting, Trey and I decided to rearrange our bedroom. The main reason was because I was getting tired of seeing the treadmill in the dinning room. So, we moved furniture and rolled the treadmill away and I think it looks much better in the bedroom than in the main eating area.

Another thing we managed to do was finally add hardware to the cabinets.

The fence isn't anywhere close to the stain we selected. The fence guy said the color should change over a months time, so I guess we'll see how the color settles.

A Strange Night

The fence guy stopped by this morning. The stain on it is still wet. I'll have some pictures up later, but here is one of Corky frolicking in the grass.

Well, Trey and I had a strange night. We both woke up at 3 am and had a hard time going back to sleep. I was having a difficult time because Cheyenne was kicking me to death. Trey put his hand on my belly and every time she'd kick me good he'd say, "Whoa!"

Time to Choose a Stain

Today, I've been enjoying the day at home. I would like to say I relaxed, but the majority of my time was spent deep cleaning the house. I didn't have any chemicals to sanitize the bathrooms, so I mixed an eco-friendly, distilled white vinegar and water to disinfect. It seemed to do the trick and I felt better, since I didn't have to expose Cheyenne to the harsh smell of chemicals. I didn't tell Trey I used this mix, but I'm sure he would roll his eyes and say, "buy the real cleaning stuff."

Other than cleaning, I baked some cookies for two new families that moved into the neighborhood. Trey and I spent about an hour at the couple's house, who live closest to us. They are both nurses and she use to work in labor and delivery at the hospital I chose, so she was giving me some great information on my doctor and the hospital. She said because the facility is so small they will be able to give me more attention. I like the sound of that.

Be Gone Gunk!

After living in our home, for almost a year, we're finally going to get the fence stained. The fence guy came over this morning to wash all the gunk off. Before I took these pictures the fence looked pretty bad.

He just washed the fence, but he'll probably be back in a few days to stain it a dark brown.


So, other than home improvements, I've been at home relaxing. Tonight, is the Dallas Cowboys game and we invited some friends over. I forgot that we were planning on ordering pizza and I started slow cooking beans. Oops!

A Nice Bump

I got great news today that I will receive a pay raise! After working so hard this week, that's exactly what I need. I'm so thankful and happy for the bump.

So, other than getting a pay raise, it looks like the painters will be returning. The have some touch ups to do in the nursery and I'm going to have them paint this accent wall where the fireplace is. I have to look at the color pallet but I was thinking a rich brown color.

The Painters are Coming and Everything Work Related

The painters will start on the nursery this Friday. I'm going out of town this weekend and I'm hoping by the time I get back, they'll be done. I'll be going to Abilene for a family wedding. Trey will stay behind, something about work and a fantasy football draft. Yeah, work...right.

So, my weekend will start soon and I'm looking forward to it. Tomorrow, I'm going to a girls night out and I'm so ready for some fun after a long week at work.

I'm not complaining about it, I'm just ready for a break before the floodgates open Monday morning (the beginning of the fall semester). We've had high traffic and busy hours and it's only been orientation week.

It's been funny, seeing the returning students. They all look surprised when they see my belly. Oh, you're expecting! When are you due? How do you feel? The OB nursing faculty have asked me if I would like to volunteer in class. They would like the students to do an assessment on a real pregnant woman and I fit the the description. Between taping classes and everything in between, I'm not sure my schedule will allow it, but I really want to participate in their learning experience.

Going For It and Dallas Cowboys Jersey's in the Church Directory

After talking about it, Trey and I both agreed to go with the professional painters. I'm not sure when they will start, but I'm hoping it will get done by the end of the month, especially with all the baby showers approaching.

Well, so far I'm having a nice weekend. I got up this morning and started to mow the yard and I think Trey felt guilty, so he went out there and took over. I can still mow, but it was nice of him to finish up.

Tonight some friends invited us to go to a Cats baseball game, but we declined because we had already made plans to watch the Dallas Cowboys preseason game on TV. I wouldn't mind missing a preseason game to go watch the Cats, but Trey had already invited a friend over to the house to watch the game.

Speaking of the Cowboys:
Last night, we went to church to get our picture taken for the directory. I'm sure we'll be the only couple wearing Dallas Cowboys jersey's....Yes, Trey's idea.

So, yeah we're going to watch football tonight, but not before I watch the Women's marathon (Olympics). Oh, it's gonna be a good one! Go USA!

I'm Not Giving Up

I'm not giving up on the front yard even though the weeds are out of control. I always see people in the neighborhood religiously taking care of their yards. And then I come home and I'm greeted by mini trees. The yard itself isn't bad it's just those darn weeds, but hopefully we've seen the worst of them.

Neighborhood Bar-B-Que

Trey and I are planning a neighborhood Bar-B-Que. It's kind of funny because we don't even own a grill, but we made sure Tim and Robin would be able to make it with theirs.

Last week, I made the invitations and Trey and I drove the scooter door to door to pass them out. While we were out, we had a chance to meet some new folks. I hope we have a good turn out. Everyone we talked to seemed interested and some even asked what they needed to bring. Currently, there's roughly 15 completed houses in the neighborhood and before passing out the flyers we had only met about half of the families living in the area. I recognized more folks than Trey because I'm always running around the block and I see them coming and going and walking dogs etc.

It should be a busy day for us on Saturday. We have a wedding that day and then I have to come home and make some cold dishes for the party. It should be fun.

The Invitation

Custom Unit in the Nursery

Trey is building a custom window seat and bookshelf unit in the nursery. Last night, we went to Lowe's and picked up all the materials and today we've spent the day working on it. Most of the morning was spent building the main frame that will support the entire bookshelf and seat. Trey is doing most of the work and I'm just assisting in any way that I can.

This project may take a week or two for us to complete, not to mention...painting the thing when it's all done. Trey and I prefer not to paint this, so we're going to hire some professional painters.

Oh, and about our room, it's obviously on the back burner. Some mornings I wake up and just stare at the unfinished paint job and I have no choice but to laugh.

Trey is still working in the garage and I understand we have to make another run to Lowe's and get some kind of tool. Earlier, we ran out of screws, so I had to hop on the scooter and run down to Tractor and Supply. Oh, and it was so hot.

Last night we got a taste of tornado weather. The electricity went off and on at least 3 times, that was annoying, since I was showering. We knew we were going to get hail, but before the storm hit, we were unsure of the size. Trey went outside and covered his work vans windshield with a rug. I guess, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Thank, God we didn't have any property damage and now life will go on. This weekend should be a good one. Tonight, Trey and I will make our way downtown to Main Street Art Festival.

It's Starting to Feel Cozy

One of our three pieces of furntiture came in today. It looks black in this picture, but it's more of a dark cherry wood color.

Across from the bookshelf, we're going to put a long bench. We're trying to make our home feel cozy and I thought this area would be a good place to throw my feet up and read a book or magazine. Hopefully the bench will be delivered sometime next week. I also have some leftover material and was hoping mom could help me make some throw pillows. Mom?

Well, other than picking up the bookshelf, Trey and I went to Weatherford to eat at Logan's Steakhouse. It was a free lunch because it's the pre-grand opening. It was okay, I don't think I'd go back anytime soon, but Trey will probably be eating there more than me because the company he works for added them as a client.

Well, right now I guess I'm going to get back to watching this basketball game with Trey. I love low key weekends.

Things you don't think of until after the fact

One thing I didn't think to tell the builder, when we were building, is to include under counter lights, in the kitchen. It's just something I didn't ask or even think about, until after the fact. We have a lot of lights in the kitchen, but it can still get pretty dark by the stove top. I think Trey got tired of hearing me complain about it, that and I think he just wanted a little home project to do, so he went ahead and installed under counter lights for me.

I love the results and I can now see what I'm cooking.

No Wires Attached and Crabgrass

I finally upgraded to a wireless router. This wireless router thing, has been long overdue. But the iPod Touch was my main motivator that made me bite the bullet.

Currently, I'm in the guest bedroom blogging away and earlier I sat on the front porch surfing my little heart out. Why did I wait so long to do this?

So, other than going online, I'm trying to recoup after a very busy weekend. In yesterday's post, I failed to mention that Trey and I woke up early to do 2 hours of yard work. Apparently, this lot we're on has weeds galore. The landscaper who installed the sod gave us a little sod and a lot of weed.

Honestly, I didn't know we had weeds, because it was growing in nicely. It wasn't until Trey informed me that we don't have grass we have Crabgrass. A few weekends ago, we started to pull some of them, but barely made a dent, so yesterday all we the energy to do was mow it flat. And yes, even mowing the front and backyard took two hours with both of us working.

Registration Complete

I just registered for my next 5K race. This race benefits the Samaritan House, a residential facility for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. I'm still training, but not as hard as I did for my last race. This time, I'm going back in forth between walking and running.





Other than training for my next race, Trey and I have been furniture shopping. Here are just a few of furniture pieces we purchased.

The Neighborhood and a Nice Weekend

At this very moment Corky is on my lap wanting all of my attention. I will try to blog through this. Oh, and Trey is asking me to bake some chocolate chip cookies. I really don't want to bake right now. Maybe later as my niece, Angelica, likes to say.

Earlier, Trey rolled out the motorcyle and we rode around the block...literally around the block. It was a short ride.

While we were out, we knocked on the door of a couple around the corner. The homeowner, Tom, obviously wasn't expecting us, but he was so nice. He even invited us inside. We introduced ourselves and chatted in his cozy home and compared our electric bills.

Speaking of neighbors, this evening Trey and I started to eat on the front porch, when we saw our soon to be neighbors-the ones across the street. They stopped by to check the progress of their home, which by the way is going up faster than I can run a mile. We stood outside and chatted for at least half an hour. I'm really looking forward to them being our neighbors because they seem like a really fun couple.

Well, we don't have any big plans for this weekend. My plan for tomorrow is to get up early to go running, shower and clean house. I really want to use this weekend to relax. I might get out of the house to do a little bit of shopping, but I want to have an uneventful break. Everyone needs a weekend like that and this is well overdue.
