For a third year in a row, I attended the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas. For the past two years I attended the Post Production World Conference at the NAB, but this year I wanted to explore more of the exhibit floor and Post Pit sessions.
Besides attending the convention, I also had an amazing opportunity to attend the Telly Awards Hall of Fame Induction. Fox Sports, Discovery Channel and NFL Films were honored at the event. Prior to the Award ceremony, there was a cocktail party. Open bar - mixer type of atmosphere. The event felt professional chic and they had fancy hors d'oeuvres. I tried to act lady like and not stuff my face with bite size portions. It was hard. At the mixer, I met a creative couple, from New York. They do event videography and for the past few years, that's something that I've been wanting to get back into (Clarification: Freelance type of work. Not full-time). They gave me some leads in the DFW area and with Trey's blessing, I'm going to look into it.
About Packing for the Trip:
So, this is Trey's Lululemon Bag, that I have confiscated. I've been using it as a work bag for the past month and it's a big enough bag, I decided not to take a suitcase to Vegas and instead take this one. It worked like a charm.
Below is a picture of the clothes I fit in the bag, for two nights/three days, plus three pair of workout clothes. Not bad. Not bad at all. There are also a few things not pictured that I took. Running shoes, laptop, toiletries, power cords, etc... It was wonderful not having to wait for my baggage at the airport. Next year, I'll have to remember to take a yoga mat. The Lulu bag has a compartment for that too! Now, you are really impressed, I just know it. Ha!
Back to the NABShow:
I attended a session with filmmaker, producer, director, actor - Kevin Smith. I learned two things about him. He smokes a lot of weed, which is evident and he's coming out with a new film, Red State. Red State is unlike any film he's made (Clerks, Mallrats, Jersey Girl, Dogma). I was surprised to hear him say, he plans on retiring from the film business after his next film (whichever film he comes out with after Red State). He seems to be over the Hollywood bs.....You need lots of money and a village to produce one movie and the entire film is measured by opening weekend. I don't blame him one bit. He mentioned more reasons, but that one spoke to me the most. Hollywood is silly. Besides having a severe potty-mouth, Smith is quite the public speaker. I did found several things he talked about applicable to what I do and he inspired me to approach work with more passion, even if I don't know what I'm doing. That never happens....
Here are a few more pictures from the exhibit floor.
The NewTek: Tricaster Booth
Touch screen TV
Massive Green Screen
Adobe's Booth
I enjoyed this session about DSLR Cameras. You should see what people are shooting on these cameras --- Motion Picture Productions - these cameras are impressive. I want one! More specially a Canon model. My birthday is coming up this month. Hint. Hint. It doesn't have to be the high end models. I'm just saying...
