BIs-TRIs Friday

Trey totally kicked my butt this morning. I wanted to give up, but he kept pushing me. He'd say, "One more rep!" He makes it look easy. No fair.

Getting Our Fitness On

For the past few days, I've been going to the gym with Trey. I don't plan on getting a membership, but it's been fun seeing how and where Trey works out. I would even say, going to the gym with him has been more exciting than going out on a date.

Today, we worked abs and then Trey swam 10 laps, while I ran three miles on the treadmill.

If my schedule was more flexible, I would join a gym, but my schedule is really tight. So, I think I'll stick to my home gym, but I think the gym option is great for Trey. I've never seen him this consistent and serious about a workout program. He is inspiring me to do more cross training. Since, he's been hitting the gym, I've been hitting the weights. And although, he doesn't admit it, I know I'm inspiring him. Yesterday, after lifting weights, I ran a mile on the treadmill and he got on the mill beside me. He ran for five minutes and walked for five. I could not believe it!

Recently, I read an article in Runner's World about grilling fruit. That article inspired me and since reading it, I've been grilling green apples. I've heard other fruits, like pineapples and peaches taste great on the grill. The only reason I'm eating so many apples is because I bought a 5 lb bag and Cheyenne is not here to help me eat it. So, I've been having 2 apples a day for the last week.

By the way, apples and salmon are a great combo. You should try it. If you like to grill a specific type of fruit, I'd love to hear about it. Tonight, I think I'm going to grill a banana.

Cheyenne is still in Abilene and she's all dolled up! I do believe she's ready to go out on the town.

Every night, before bedtime, I read Chey a few books, then turn the lights down, and we sit there and cuddle for at least five minutes. Awww, seeing this picture makes me miss my cuddle bug!

Play Hard. Nap Hard.

Well, you would think I'd have all this free time, without a little one to chase around, but the truth is I've been running around like crazy, since she's been away. Yesterday, I met with Erin and her girls. Soon she will be watching Cheyenne and we are very excited! 


After that I made an enchilada dinner for our friends Ben and Carrie. A few days ago, Ben had back surgery. He is at home doing fine, just recovering. After dropping off food, I met with the run group and ran a 3 mile fun run. A HOT run! And then after that we went to Mellow Mushroom and celebrated Lee's 30th birthday. By the time I got home it was late and I was tired. Trey has been out of town on business, but he'll be back home this evening. I'm glad too! I would've like for him to go to Mellow Mushroom with me or even better running. One day.

Dud to Stud

Last night, Trey and I worked out together! That never happens. We lifted free weights and I worked my abs using my super awesome exercise ball.

Yeah, Trey is still going strong with his workout regimen. 5 days a week, he’s hitting the gym -- weight training and swimming and he’s starting to see results. He’s dropping weight, gaining muscle and his dress pants are practically falling off his butt. Currently, he’s doing a specific program he found in a magazine. It’s called From Dud to Stud. Really, that’s what it’s called. It’s a dream of mine to go running with him, but he said he doesn’t want to run with me until he reaches a certain weight. Hopefully, he will change his mind and decide to run, despite this magic number nonsense.   

The thing that impresses me the most is he’s changing his diet. Extra virgin olive oil, cooking his own breakfast, and eating less processed food…he’s even trying new vegetables. Who is this man? For about two weeks, we’ve been eating a lot of protein…mainly meat. We’ve been grilling about three times a week. I’m enjoying this healthy journey and I’m glad Trey is on board.

A Glimpse of the Garden

I had to double check, but it was only three weeks ago when Trey and I planted seed. Wow, it's growing fast.  From the looks of it, we may need to trim back the tomatoes (to the left). What do you think? Any green thumbs out there? If they get any bigger, they'll be toppling over each other. Like I mentioned a few weeks ago, this is our first garden, so this is all new.

I Want My Mommy

It must have been something I ate, because I'm SICK to my stomach. Last night, I went to Apples of Gold and had a wonderful meal, but later my stomach started going crazy.

Back in January, I got sick with the same type of illness, which is basically a stomach bug. After talking with the MD, she suggested I go on the BRAT diet. haha. I'm not a Brat.

Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. It's already 1 pm and I haven't had anything. I really need to eat something soon. I wish my mom was here so she could rub my back and take care of me. I took a sick day from work and Trey took Chey over to Katy's. There is no way, I could've watched her. I've been sleeping most of the morning.

Back to bed I go and maybe I'll feel well enough to crawl out of bed and warm up some rice. Thank goodness for my frozen batches.

I know, I’m a few days late, but here is my weekend run. I didn’t want to run more than six miles, since I did yoga the day before. And let me tell you, I was sore. Yoga is an excellent option for cross training and although it doesn’t come naturally to me, I think I will continue to do it. I can only get better. I hope.

Mother's Day Gift

One of the ladies from Apples of Gold gave me this easy brisket recipe. Last night, I marinated the meat and this morning, before heading off to church, I placed it in the oven for a few hours. When we came home from church, it was practically ready. 

Easy, simple, and better than going out for lunch.

The sides were super easy too, especially since I'm still making Cheyenne's food a few weeks in advance. It's nice to have healthy options ready at a moments notice. The green beans were an organic can product, the potatoes were made in advance, and fresh farmers market greens and tomatoes.

I've also started making our ground beef and chicken in advance. So during the work week, I don't have to worry about it. It saves me anywhere from ten to forty minutes, not to mention one less pot I have to wash.

Well, I hope all the mommies out there have a wonderful day. We love you and appreciate you!

Try Something New Everyday

This morning, I went to my first EVER yoga class at the Lululemon Showroom!

Yesterday, Lululemon had their grand opening and since Trey worked late (he didn't get home until 10 pm), Cheyenne and I went to the grand opening party. We had sushi and Chey LOVED the green juice.

By the way, every Saturday they offer a free yoga class to the community, so if you're interested let me know!

Butt Naked

Cheyenne woke up crying at 3 am. She leaked through her diaper and her sheets were soaking wet. I didn't feel like changing the sheets, so after I cleaned her up,  we cuddled in bed. She didn't have any bloomers on, just a t-shirt and her diaper.

Sometime around 4 am, Chey decided to strip her diaper off, swing it around and bounce butt naked on Trey's pillow...all while we were sleeping. Did I mention, the diaper was wet? Hilarious!

Trey didn't think it was too funny, maybe because this all happened on his pillow. After he got over the initial shock, he carried her butt naked, back to her bedroom. That all happened early this morning and even now, I can't stop laughing!

No, He Didn't...

Yes, he did! My birthday gift from Trey:  The Men's Health BIG Book of Exercises. Before he gave me this book he said, "Women can use it too!" I laughed so hard. It was a thoughtful gift and last night I referenced it, while I used another birthday gift, an exercise ball, which Trey's parents got me. Don't let the ball fool you, it's hard work! Talk about a great core workout. These abs are gonna get ripped.

Here is an idea of what's inside the book. The book has some helpful tips and there are more charts like this including chest, shoulders, glutes...
By the way, my 26th birthday was absolutely wonderful. Friday evening, I spent time with my family in Abilene. Trey organized a birthday celebration at Red Robin's and I got a free ice cream sundae which Trey and Cheyenne ate. Surprised? Cheyenne liked the ice cream a little too much. Some people think I deprive her of sweets. I just like to give her treats when it's a special occasion, nothing's wrong with that :)
