A Taste of Spring

For some reason, I got this idea to grow a small garden in my kitchen. The easiest thing to grow is tomatoes

and the hardest is strawberry's

Above, are the strawberry's I started to grow weeks ago. I gave up on them, maybe I'll try again later on this month.

basil below...

Below here: I know that half of this is cliantro, but the other half, I'm not quite sure.

Eventually, I want to transplant my small kitchen garden to the backyard. I'm really enjoying early spring. The last two nights Trey and I have had dinner on the porch.

Things you don't think of until after the fact

One thing I didn't think to tell the builder, when we were building, is to include under counter lights, in the kitchen. It's just something I didn't ask or even think about, until after the fact. We have a lot of lights in the kitchen, but it can still get pretty dark by the stove top. I think Trey got tired of hearing me complain about it, that and I think he just wanted a little home project to do, so he went ahead and installed under counter lights for me.

I love the results and I can now see what I'm cooking.

No Walk Breaks

From 2008 Joe's Run
I'm glad I ran this race and didn't take any walk breaks even though I really, really, wanted to. It was difficult because this race was more laid back, compared to Cowtown. There were a lot of kids that I almost plowed at the beginning. Someone should've told them to start in the middle or back because it was dangerous trying to dodge them at the start line. But then again some of those kids did pass me....

Anyways, I think the new shoes I purchased yesterday helped. Before, with my old shoes, I would run 3 miles and later feel a burning sensation on my feet. It wasn't painful, but it was discomforting and annoying.
From 2008 Joe's Run

I'm not sure if the results are posted, but it looks like I will beat my best run time by a few seconds. I really want to improve my time and possibly get my 3 mile run down to 25 minutes. It seems like a lot of time to shave off, but I think it's a goal worth shooting for.

Well, right before the race we ran into Trey's boss and his wife. They also ran the Cowtown, a few weeks ago.

Fort Worth Running Co.

For sometime, I've been putting off buying new running shoes. Well, you've seen the pictures of my old ones. So, it was time to invest in the best piece of equipment a runner can have.

I didn't want to go to just any sporting good store, instead I went to Ft. Worth Running Company. The owner assisted me and asked me to run a short distance on the store's treadmill. The treadmill recorded my feet as I ran. After a few seconds of that I jumped off the treadmill and the guy showed me the recorded footage. Based on the recording he recommended several shoes. Typically, I'm more partial to the Nike brand, but this time I pushed all brands aside and focused on comfort, stability, and control. In the end, it came down to Saucony and Brooks. I chose Brooks. My first run with these bad boys will be tomorrow morning during my 2nd 5K race.

I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T

Over Spring Break, Steve and I swapped cell phones. We both had the same type of phone, but different colors. He wanted mine b/c it's OSU colors and I liked his black and blue phone b/c it looked cute.

Even though he took his sim card out, all of the ring tones are still on the phone. So, ever since Saturday, I've been answering incoming calls to this ring tone...

Give the Key To Corky, He'll Hold It

I have an upcoming race this Saturday and I'm mentally preparing myself. Oh, and I'm also running when I get a chance.
While I was in Stillwater, I bought Corky this cute jacket. It comes in really handy too. Most of my work-out wardrobe lacks pockets, so the last two days I've been placing my house key in Corky's jacket.

I'm not going to lie, today's run was difficult and it didn't help that Corky wanted to quit right before we hit the 3 mile mark.

A Great Trip

The trip in Stillwater was great. Linda and Steve showed us all around town. We slept at their apartment and even took Corky along. They have a long hair Dodson named Rusty. Rusty has a reputation for not getting along with others even humans, but Linda and Steve said that he did better with Corky, than they expected. About Corky and the trip...He's a great traveler! I mean it too. Trey said we should start traveling with him and I agree.
Saturday morning, Linda and I went for a 3 mile run. I enjoy running by myself, but here lately it's been getting really old, so it was nice to have a running buddy to talk to for the 30 minute hike. Her neighborhood is a little hilly, so the run was definetly harder than my normal one. Around the 2 mile mark our chatting slowed down because I was focusing on breathing.

I laughed a lot this past weekend and it was so nice to see friends. Trey kept teasing Linda about being a bad host, but thats what he does. Actually, both Linda and Steve were great host. Linda made these amazing brownie sundaes and always had something for us to do, and knew when we just wanted to hang out and not do anything, but talk. Trey and I had so much fun and I can't wait for them to make the trip to see us.

Back from Stillwater

Trey and I spent the weekend at Linda and Steve's.

I drove up Friday, so today it was Trey's turn to drive us home. I managed to catch some zzz's in the car, but I'm still tired. I have to get some rest if I want to be productive tomorrow. More on the trip later.

The Modern

Natasha, is spending some of her Spring Bring with Trey and I here in Ft. Worth. Earlier we had a chance to go to The Modern Art Museum.

We also had a chance to go to David's Bridal because Natasha is having a quinceanera this November. She tried on several wedding dresses and I'm sure people were whispering about her age. I felt like telling them, no she's not getting married it's called a quince.

My First Telly Award

A video I produced, Bedside to Nationwide won me a Bronze Telly Award! This news just made my day and makes me even happier knowing that I can add it to my resume.

If you don't know what a Telly Award is...... this is how Wikipedia describes it:

The Telly Award "recognize distinction in creative work," honoring outstanding local and regional television commercials and productions, as well as non-broadcast video productions.

No Wires Attached and Crabgrass

I finally upgraded to a wireless router. This wireless router thing, has been long overdue. But the iPod Touch was my main motivator that made me bite the bullet.

Currently, I'm in the guest bedroom blogging away and earlier I sat on the front porch surfing my little heart out. Why did I wait so long to do this?

So, other than going online, I'm trying to recoup after a very busy weekend. In yesterday's post, I failed to mention that Trey and I woke up early to do 2 hours of yard work. Apparently, this lot we're on has weeds galore. The landscaper who installed the sod gave us a little sod and a lot of weed.

Honestly, I didn't know we had weeds, because it was growing in nicely. It wasn't until Trey informed me that we don't have grass we have Crabgrass. A few weekends ago, we started to pull some of them, but barely made a dent, so yesterday all we the energy to do was mow it flat. And yes, even mowing the front and backyard took two hours with both of us working.

Granbury's Historical District

Earlier today, Trey and I made a trip to Granbury's Historical District. We walked around the town square and later meet up with Trey's cousin, Jeremy....Jeremy's fiance, and some of her family, for lunch.

This weekend has been so much fun. Last night, we went to the Kimbell Art Museum in downtown Ft. Worth: Cultural Arts District, to view the gallery's permanent collection. After that, we went out for homemade custard. Or is it called custard ice cream? Well, you know what I mean. It was delicious and the portion size was just right for me. Don't ask Trey what he thought about the portion size.

Registration Complete

I just registered for my next 5K race. This race benefits the Samaritan House, a residential facility for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. I'm still training, but not as hard as I did for my last race. This time, I'm going back in forth between walking and running.

Other than training for my next race, Trey and I have been furniture shopping. Here are just a few of furniture pieces we purchased.

Jailbreaking the iPod Touch

The last few days, I've been attempting to jailbreak my iPod. Since I have the latest version of this product, I have not been able to do this successfully. I'm guessing that I will have to wait about a month before an updated version will be made available.

The advantage of jailbreaking the iPod is having access to tons of 3rd party applications and really using the product to its full potential. Even though I haven't cracked the code of the touch, I can still enjoy it.

Lately, I've been downloading a lot of video podcast and I watch them while Trey is watching re-runs of football games on TV. Last night he watched a Dallas Cowboys game, while I caught up on world news.

iTouch for Higher Education

Spring break is coming up, but I won't have a break anytime soon. I like staying busy and things are starting to pick up at work. Our nursing distance education has me on my toes. A few days ago I was handed an Apple iPod touch. Pretty Cool!

Soon, our department will be launching video and audio via iTunesU. The students enrolled in this program will have the ability to download class lectures to their iPod touch (which is issued to them). This technology amazes me and I do this for a living.

I know the students are going to love all the features on the iPod touch. Now I'm really glad I didn't purchase the iPhone for myself, because I'd be lugging around two very similar devices. Right now, I'm okay having my very affordable phone plan, but the next phone upgrade will most likely be the iPhone.

4 Years of Marriage

Today, Trey and I celebrate 4 years of marriage.

I'm blessed to be married to a such a wonderful man who has always supported and encouraged me to be my best. He's the love of my life, my greatest companion, the only one who can make me laugh so hard-- I have to use my asthma inhaler, and the one who greets me every morning with the words, "Good morning beautiful."

Running for A Cause

Here lately I’ve been searching for the next 5K race. In the meantime, I’m just running for fun. I invited Trey to join me Saturday morning and he did his best to keep up. I slowed down and we eventually walked before we reached the .5 mile mark. He has asthma and I didn’t want to push him, so I just encouraged him. I told him I was really proud of him for trying. We walked the rest of the mile and then he sat on the porch and I ran 2 miles.

The next race I want to sign up for is towards the end of the month, so I have a few weeks to get ready.I'm trying to find races that benefits a good cause. This race is organized by a non-profit group. The proceeds go towards individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Keep on Trucking

Trey and I have finally settled and we’re ready to start looking for a church home. We visited the church across the street from our community. I’m so glad we did because it felt like our old church in Buffalo Gap. It’s smaller and the classes only have a few couples, so I didn’t feel lost in the crowd.

I met this really nice girl about the same age as me. Trey was there while we were chatting and out of nowhere he points at me and tells the girl, “She needs a friend.” His intentions were good, but it was embarrassing, no it was embarrassing and then once I got over it, I got a good laugh. The girl then asked if I like scrap booking and I started to say not really, but then Trey said, oh yeah, she does! I was thinking, I do? She invited me to a scrap book meeting and I can tell you right now I don’t plan on going. I did meet another girl and she invited me to hang out with them in a few weeks. I might take her up on that.

So, later that night I meet Cortnee at Chilis. She and I got a good laugh about how she’s my only friend around here. She said that she doesn’t have many friends either. I don’t believe it.

She offered to hook me up with some of her friends in Ft. Worth and I said no. What am I a charity case? I’d rather have a group of good friends than a lot of acquaintances. Quality over quantity, please. It’ll happen soon. In the meantime, I’ll just keep on trucking.

Dallas Cowboys Stadium

We went to Arlington to see the progress of the new stadium. I would write more, but I'm too tired to type a big entry. This weekend wasn't exactly a couch potato weekend, but I'll write more later when I get some rest. Anyways, here are the stadium pictures.
